Welcome to Wirdum (Groningen)

Wirdum is a small and historic village in the province of Groningen, located between the city of Groningen and the northern coastal region. Built on an ancient mound (“terp”), Wirdum dates back to the early Middle Ages and still displays its traditional layout with narrow lanes and characteristic farmhouses. The peaceful surroundings of meadows, dikes, and waterways make it a wonderful spot for walking and cycling. Nearby are Loppersum, Ten Boer, and the Reitdiep Valley — all rich in history and northern Dutch charm. Wirdum offers a quiet escape close to the city yet deeply connected to the rural landscape of Groningen.
